On January 12, 2023, the inaugural season of the American reality show, The Traitors, was released to the public on Peacock. The show consists of twenty individuals, ten of whom are reality television veterans, and ten who are fresh faces from all around the country. In the premiere episode, the host, Alan Cumming, chose three of the twenty individuals to play as the traitors. They will secretly murder the remaining seventeen individuals who are referred to as the faithfuls. Every evening following a competition in an attempt to win money for the prize pot, the individuals still in the game will gather around the table and vote to eliminate one person. Later in the evenings, the remaining traitors will gather and choose which remaining faithful shall be murdered. Once the game ends, if any traitors are left, they will win all the money awarded in the prize pot, leaving the faithfuls with nothing. The only way the faithfuls can win is if all the traitors are eliminated.

Notable individuals on the cast include former Survivor alumni Cirie Fields and Stephenie LaGrossa Kedrick, Big Brother alumni Cody Calafiore and Rachel Reilly Villegas, as well as Bravo alumni Brandi Glanville, Kate Chastain, and Reza Farahan.

At the first roundtable, Cumming selected Calafiore, Fields, and newbie Christian de la Torre as the three primary traitors. Throughout the first few episodes, the three of them proved to be a deadly trio after they successfully murdered four faithfuls, as well as convinced the others to banish four other faithfuls.

A large portion of the season was dedicated to Fields. Fields proved to be at least one step ahead of everyone, including the two other traitors. During the fourth episode, she convinced Calafiore to murder one of his closest friends, Olympian Ryan Lochte, in order to protect some of the bigger shields in the game. Two episodes later, both Fields and de la Torre banished Calafiore with the remaining faithfuls. After Calafiore, the first traitor to be eliminated, a new traitor was recruited, Bachelorette contestant, Arie Luyendyk Jr. Two episodes later, Fields successfully banished de la Torre. Many viewers saw this as a throwback to her second Survivor season; Survivor: Micronesia, when she successfully conned an outgoing, enthusiastic, young man.

During the finale, only four contestants remained. Two faithfuls: Newbies Andie Vanacore and Quentin Jiles and two traitors: Fields and Luyendyk. Over the course of the season, the repour that Fields had built with both Vanacore and Jiles was shown and it was not surprising to witness both faithfuls believe that there were no more traitors. However, the only thing standing in their way of the final reveal was Fields.

The final challenge involved stones. Red stones signified that the player wanted to end the game and green stones signified that the player wanted to eliminate one last player. Fields, one of the two remaining traitors, made one last bold move to eliminate one last player. In doing so, she became responsible for banishing the third traitor, Luyendyk, and became the sole remaining traitor.

Afterwards, the game officially ended and Cumming revealed that Fields was in fact a traitor. Fields’ outstanding gameplay and social status was inspiring to viewers and may claim that this show further validated her legacy. She ultimately took the entire $250 thousand dollar prize, leaving the remaining two with nothing.
