Olivia Wilde’s new film, Don’t Worry Darling, is a psychological romance that stars sensational actors, Harry Styles and Florence Pugh as the main couple throughout the plot. In a seemingly normal, yet old-fashioned way of living, the men go off to work each morning, leaving their wives home to clean, care for the children, or spend their time as leisurely as they wish. What starts off as a steamy romance, quickly turns into confusion and fear as Alice(Florence Pugh) begins to experience things that are not quite right in their utopian community, Victory. As the plot further unfolds, Alice notices more things that aren’t quite right, perhaps better described as a glitch in the system, and Alice begins to wonder if their perfect life isn’t quite what it seems.

According to Mariana Anderson she said, “I was genuinely shocked for ten to fifteen minutes with my mouth open, I was stressed.” Many of her friends had the same reaction to the movie such as Meredith Anella, “Most absurd thing of my life, not gonna be able to process that for like two years.” When asked about what she thought of the movie, Lucy O’Brien says, “I cannot breathe, what the heck, Flo? Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!” Rotten Tomatoes describes the film as ‘dazzling while it lasts, but it’s mostly forgettable’, giving the film a 38% or a rating of 2.5/5. However, the audience score continues to rise and so far has reached 77%. The audience argues that while the film might have similar ideas or themes to other movies, it is a new take on psychological thrillers.

Throughout the creation and release of Don’t Worry Darling, there have been many conspiracies and drama surrounding the actors and actresses. One of the most alarming conspiracies was the pay gap between Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. It was revealed that Styles was paid four times more than Pugh. Olivia Wilde steps up to defend Pugh saying, “But the absurdity of invented clickbait and subsequent reaction regarding a nonexistent pay disparity between our lead and supporting actors really upset me.” Wilde tries to disprove this conspiracy by saying that she is a woman in the same industry, and therefore knows the struggles of the pay gap and the unfair advantages that men recieve and women don’t. However, it can be argued that Styles perhaps brought in more publicity than Pugh, therefore earning him more and making the movie a larger success.

Another conspiracy that was said to occur was the rift between Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh. At the Venice Film Festival, Pugh was a no show, prompting curiosity among the audience. Yet again, Wilde tries to defend saying, “As for all the endless tabloid gossip and noise out there, the internet feeds itself. I don’t feel the need to contribute. I think it’s sufficiently well-nourished.” However, more questions prompted from this description of the news, and Wilde let her moderator step in for her. Many fans also wonder why Pugh was not promoting her movie, which the cast defends that it was because she was shooting a second movie. Furthermore, some speculate that Pugh was mad that there was a lot of intimacy between Styles and Wilde, continuing even when Wilde’s custody papers were sent to her during the filming of the movie from her ex-fiancé, Jason Sudeikis. Fans continue to wonder about the drama behind Olivia Wilde, Harry Styles, and Florence Pugh, however many questions will continue to go unanswered.

Another alarming conspiracy during the creation of the film was between Styles and LaBeouf, who was previously supposed to play Harry’s role as Jack. Two different stories have revolved around why LaBeouf was not in the film. The first, that Wilde backs up, was that he was fired from the production, because there were rumors that he abused his girlfriend. Wilde fired him in order to protect Pugh from his behavior. However, LaBeouf steps in to say that he quit of his own accord and has a video of Wilde almost begging him to come back to the production, and throws shade at Pugh saying, “You know, I think this might be a bit of a wake-up call for Miss Flo.” This could factor into another reason why Pugh was so hesitant about promoting the movie. However, she eventually showed up at the Venice Film Festival, but greeted all of the cast except Wilde and Styles. Accident or not, there were even human buffers between the three as they sat in their seats.

The last but not least conspiracy arises from Harry Styles supposedly spitting on Chris Pine. Erupting across the internet, fans were mad and assumed that Styles acted out of rudeness. In contrast to that, many ‘Harry fans’ have made signs saying that they want to be spit on by Harry Styles too. However, this was quickly cleared up as a representative of Pine’s stated they were both on good terms. Styles jokes around at his concerts with members of the audience saying, “… I just popped very quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine” to lighten the tone surrounding the conspiracies.

While all of these conspiracies loomed to hurt the film, many found it very entertaining and gave the film a positive rating. However, many also found the film shocking and creepy. Overall, Don’t Worry Darling left the audience speechless, speculating, and in shock.
