The Video Music Awards is one of the most essential nights in pop culture. The VMA’s can make or break a celebrity’s status based on their performance or red carpet look. The VMAs have always been an important night for any music star whether they are at the start of their career or even one of the biggest stars in the world. Celebrities must ensure their red carpet outfits make a statement.

Best Dressed

  1. Becky G

Becky G is wearing a Zuhair Murad fall 2022 dress. The dress is a full-length gown with cutouts along the side of the dress and beautiful details The designs on the dress are tarot card readings that include the sun, the ace of swords, the lovers, and the chariots of justice. She went very minimalist with the jewelry; only wearing rings and earrings. She paired the dress with simple black heels.

     2. Conan Gray

This was Conan’s first VMAs and dare I say he made an entrance. He was styled in an elegant white cape with floral details and paired with black pants by designer Harris Reed. I love the boldness of this outfit. He didn’t over-accessorize and let the outfit speak for itself. It was elegant but still risqué which is perfect for the VMA’s.

     3. Dove Cameron

Dove Cameron showed off her new style at the famous award show this year. She is seen wearing a black and floral floor-length gown by Paco Rabanne. She accessorized this gothic look with a black choker and black chunky platform heels. The dress has two belts across the chest and stomach which helps tie the look together in an odd way.

     4. Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina shouted out the 2000s for her red carpet low rise moment. She wore a black floral gown with cut-outs by Moschino. She paired this dress with a black tie headband and pearl earrings. She finished off the look with black heels.

      5. Taylor Swift

Nothing but applause for Taylor Swift’s red carpet look this year. Her dress is not only a reference to her past 2009 VMA dress but it’s also stunning. Taylor wore a crystal-studded cut-out dress by Oscar de la Renta. She paired the dress with crystal earrings and gorgeous heels with hanging crystals.

Worst Dressed

  1. Chole Fineman

I just can’t get behind some trends in fashion and this look is one of them. Chole wore a quilted holographic orange puffer dress designed by Threeasfour. Maybe I would like the dress more if it was shorter. I’ll give her this: the VMAs are the perfect place to wear this dress.

       2. Lili Rineheart

Lili was on the carpet wearing a sheer black floor-length gown by Kim Jones.  I don’t like the dress because of the high neckline and the scarf attached to it. I think it messes up everything she was going for with this look. It reminds me of Nickelodeon’s red carpet in the early 2000s.

      3. Lizzo

Everything I said about Chole’s dress can also be noted for  Lizzo’s dress.  Lizzo wore a dark blue puffer dress gown designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. She paired the look with black gloves and spiral earrings. I just feel like this style could’ve been executed so much differently.

      4. Justina Valentine

I’m all for crystal studded everything but when it’s overdone it ruins the whole effect of the outfit. Justina wore a crystal-studded jumpsuit with a red heart in the middle; the designer is unknown. The problem I have with this outfit is the use of too many colors. Purple, yellow, red, and blue are just visually overwhelming and the way the pants cut off at her ankles makes the outfit even worse.

        5. Dylan O’Brien

Dylan appeared on this red carpet looking like a grandma’s couch. He wore a floral suit paired with a black shirt underneath by Franc Fernandez. I’m personally not into patterns on top of the same pattern type that’s my issue with this look. If he wore different pants then the look would’ve been executed well
