Last Weekend John Adams’ National Honors Society held their annual Night of the Arts. The night included a showcasing of artwork created by students, an auctioning of art and other gifts, arts and crafts hosted by NHS members, as well as musical performances and talents put on in the auditorium, including a performance from John Adams’ all girl band SunnySide, a comedy act by Jonathon Zapf, and many others.

Every year, Night of the Arts is held to raise money for a different organization, such as the Humane Society or the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA). This year’s chosen charity was La Casa de Amistad (meaning “House of Friendship”), a local organization that aims to empower the Latino/Hispanic community by “providing educational, cultural, and advocacy services in a welcoming, bilingual environment.” Adams has worked with La Casa de Amistad in the past and enjoys supporting a local organization that encourages cultural equality and participation of community members.

Artworks of multiple mediums made by students here at Adams were showcased for attendees Saturday evening. The pieces included drawings, paintings, and ceramic pieces. There was an auctioning of selected art pieces made by students, as well as, other gifts provided by the community. National Honors Society members also helped in face painting, and making arts and crafts for kids and families.

The sponsor of Night of the Arts, Mrs. Stanton, was proud of all of the NHS volunteers that worked so hard together to organize the event. Not only was this year’s Night of the Arts the biggest fundraiser to date, raising over $3000 for La Casa de Amistad, but the event also provided a learning experience for the students as they organized the night, and were brought together to make an impact in our community. Overall, this year’s Night of the Arts was a success!
