The 2023 high school football season is coming to a close, and it is almost time for the seniors to say goodbye to their beloved high school sport. A senior who is particularly emotional about completing his last year of highschool football is Evan Adams, one of the four captains of Eagles Football who has been a dedicated member of the team for his entire high school career. Evan has graciously agreed to an interview from The Tower so we can look in depth to his time as a student and player, as well as discover the ups and downs (get it?) of highschool football.
This season was Evan’s first season as captain, and he felt honored and happy when he was chosen, stating that he was “glad that people around [him] viewed [him] as a leader.” Having made varsity in his sophomore year, Evan has always set a good example for the rest of the team and makes sure to keep them motivated throughout the game and in practice. This is particularly important to the underclassmen who look to the more experienced players for guidance on how to succeed.
Due to the fact that he played football all four years of high school, Evan was introduced to new people that he has created a close bond with. Through the long practices and grueling games, this bond has only deepened. Being a member of the football team has allowed him to “put [himself] out there more and meet new groups of people.” Evan is very thankful for the lasting friendships he has made through football, and appreciates football as a whole for bringing people together to work as a team.
Along with being a seasoned athlete, Evan is also a partial IB student which he manages along with late night practices, and early morning workouts. According to Evan, “It has been tough at points, especially those nights we get out so late, but I always find time to finish my work.” Despite the seemingly overbearing workload, Evan achieves on the field and in the classroom, and he values the hard work that he puts into everything that he does.
Unfortunately, Evan’s high school football career will be coming to a close in the coming weeks. However, there are many young players that bring a new light to the Adams football program. Evan’s hope for these players is that they keep developing their skills and continue to play well, with the ultimate goal of bringing Adams football back to where it’s supposed to be.
In the future, Evan will continue to maintain his passion for football, as well as the friendships he has made along the way. Evan is grateful for all of the people who have been with him on his journey, particularly his family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have supported him in all his endeavors. Evan will always look back on his time at Adams fondly, and he will take the lessons he has learned into his future life.
