Tom Brady Retires
February 10, 2023
Tom Brady is widely considered the greatest football player of all time. Commonly nicknamed the “G.O.A.T.” Brady is one of the winningest players in sports history and after 22 seasons in the National Football League, Tom has officially retired again for the second time in two years. This poses many questions, such as: What is next for Tom? What is next for the Buccaneers? and, what are the chances that he comes back for another season?
Tom Brady retired in February 2022 and unretired not even 2 months later. Within that time he signed a 10-year contract worth $375,000,000 to broadcast with FOX. Even though he unretired and played another season, the contract is still in place. However, with his recent retirement, Brady stated that he will be taking a gap year and will be starting his broadcast career in the Fall of 2024. It is unclear what type of broadcasting Brady will be doing but all signs point towards him being a color commentator.
As for what is next for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; they have one quarterback currently on the roster. Kyle Trask, a former second round pick from the University of Florida, has thrown 9 passes so far in his career and has only completed 3 of them. The Buccaneers have not stated their plans for the Quarterback position for 2023-2024 season. The Buccaneers have the 19th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and the Quarterbacks in the 2023 Draft Class have been praised highly by Scouts and the Media.
Ever since Tom announced his retirement this year, fans have been skeptical about him truly leaving the game. Last year, Brady retired on February 1 and unretired on March 13. This year Tom also retired on February 1, potentially leaving the door open for him to return for his 23rd season. He has stated that he is taking a gap year before going to the broadcast booth; meaning he potentially has another chance to come back for another season. However, Brady is a free agent. Meaning he gets to choose what team he plays for next if he were to play next season.
