Fabian Velazquez is a talented and bright senior at John Adams High School. Fabian is a friend and teammate to many, and his time at John Adams will not soon be forgotten. His dedication to being a student-athlete has made his time at John Adams enjoyable while paving the way for a promising future.

Fabian is involved with the International Baccalaureate program at John Adams. Although these classes are of the highest difficulty for a high school student, Fabian has enjoyed the challenge. His favorite class in the program is IB Analysis and Approaches, a class that most IB students have quite the challenge with. While Fabian is not a full diploma candidate, taking these classes is very important to him.

“Even though I am not full IB and technically did not need it, challenging myself is always something I like to do, and that was the way to do it.”

Many of Fabian’s highlights from high school have come from his four-year participation on the John Adams soccer team. However, if you ever made it to a John Adams soccer game, you know that Fabian did more than participate. Fabian was on the varsity team for three straight years, where he quickly established himself as one of the best soccer players in the area. Fabian’s consistent success on the pitch earned him the captain’s armband his senior year, a matter he did not take lightly. When asked about being a captain, Fabian said it was a great experience with a lot of responsibility. His favorite memory while being on the team is scoring against Zionsville in the Hoosier Cup, where he celebrated a great victory with his teammates.

Soccer has been a part of Fabian’s life for as long as he can remember. He currently plays for Elkhart County United when high school soccer is not in season; either way he always finds the time to keep the ball at his feet. A fond memory of Fabian’s is when he went to Mexico and was invited to play a late-night game of soccer.

“I was invited to play in a soccer game late at night, and over there it’s pretty dangerous to be out so late, but I went with my cousin and got to play with his friends, we played an 11 v 11, and I realized just how much I enjoyed soccer.”

When Fabian isn’t involved in school or extracurricular activities, he enjoys playing video games, listening to music, and hitting the gym. Fabian makes sure to find time to spend with his family and friends. He likes to get together with his friends to hang out, and oftentimes study.

After high school, Fabian will attend Holy Cross College. He will be double majoring in psychology and marketing, as well as having the opportunity to play soccer at the college level. Fabian is glad that he can stay close to home, and he is excited to have such a great opportunity ahead. Fabian credits his father for much of his success, “he always pushed me to be better and to ask more of myself, and because of him I always strive for the best.” Fabian’s soccer career will be one to follow, as he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his idol, Paulo Dybala.

As Fabian is part of the class of 2023, he has left some words of wisdom for his classmates at John Adams, “We are all products of our past, but that doesn’t mean we have to be prisoners in it.” He would also like to thank everyone who pushed him to become the best version of himself.

The Tower wishes Fabian all the best in his very bright future.
