Spring is in the air and there is no better time to watch a cheesy rom-com than when the flowers start blooming. While there are great rom-coms for every season, spring is especially wonderful for rom-coms because of the happy atmosphere and gorgeous pastel palettes of many of these movies. So let’s dive into the top 10 rom-coms to watch this spring!
Number 10: Enchanted
Enchanted is a magical movie about a fairy-tale princess who falls into a well and ends up in New York City. Whilst navigating through a city “where there are no happily ever afters” and trying to get back to her prince, Giselle meets a lawyer and his daughter and figures out that the happily ever that she was looking for may not be as good as the ending that she stumbled upon. This movie has some beautiful spring scenes that take place in Central Park. While both extremely hilarious and perfect for hopeless romantics, it is a little bit more of a kids movie than a classic rom-com which is why it is further down on the list.

Number 9: Hitch
Hitch is another wonderful rom-com that takes place in New York City. It tells the story of Alex Hitch, aka the “love doctor,” who clumsily starts to date a gossip columnist, despite his reputation for smoothly coaching guys into having a relationship with a girl that they have a crush on. This movie will be perfect for any fans of classic rom-coms, but also ranks slightly lower on this list for its lack of profound spring scenes, however, you can definitely tell that the weather is sunny and the birds are chirping throughout the film.

Number 8: My Big Fat Greek Wedding
My Big Fat Greek Wedding is about a woman named Toula who is pressured into finding a husband by her big Greek family. She does end up finding a guy who she really likes and who proposes to her…except he is not Greek. She then has to find a way to introduce him to her family and get them to accept him. This movie makes it into the list for its hilarious scenes and fun light atmosphere. Although this one is not as much about falling in love, it is still a great rom-com. It also has two sequels for those who are avid fans!

Number 7: Ever After
Ever After is a twist on the fairytale Cinderella, starring Drew Barrymore. This movie takes the classic story and adds more development, nuance and character development. The main character Danielle meets Prince Henry while masquerading as nobility in order to save a friend, despite her humble life forced into servitude by her stepmother and stepsisters. The scenery and costuming of the movie is absolutely breathtaking and has many outdoor scenes. The movie is less comedic and more serious, however, it adds serious depth to the well-known story of Cinderella.

Number 6: Clueless
This one is an upbeat parody of the classic Jane Austen novel, Emma. The main character, Cher, who is used to getting what she wants, starts to interfere with the love lives of everyone around her. As she plays the role of matchmaker for others, she also tries to navigate her own love life, with many clumsy mistakes. This movie defined the meaning of the fashion term “preppy” and the bright colors and fun atmosphere are perfect for spring. This movie is slightly more comedic than romantic.

Number 5: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, one of the few modern rom-coms to make it on this list, is about a high school student, Laura Jean, who writes love letters to all of her crushes, including her older sister’s ex-boyfriend, and keeps them in her closet. Her little sister, Kitty, finds these letters and decides to mail all of them out. In the chaos that ensues, Laura Jean fakes a relationship with one of the recipients of the letters, Peter, in order to avoid confronting her feelings with her sister’s boyfriend. Laura Jean is a very down-to-earth, relatable character that viewers can connect with. The plot of the movie is engaging and keeps a good pace throughout the movie. While the seasons change throughout the movie, the cherry blossoms and pastel color scheme of the movie make it perfect for spring!

Number 4: The Princess Bride
The Princess Bride is one of the ultimate classic movies including adventure, romance and comedy! It is about Buttercup, the bride to be of Prince Humperdink. Her true love, a farm boy named Westley, died at sea years ago and now she is about to marry the prince whom she does not love. In a turn of events, however, Buttercup is kidnapped, and a masked man comes to rescue her. The best part of this movie is the quick, witty dialogue. Not only does this movie balance romance and comedy well, but it also throws in adventure!

Number 3: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is a rom-com about a magazine writer, Andy Anderson, whose goal is to start dating a guy and get him to break up with her in less than ten days so that she can write an article about it. In a turn of events, the guy that she chooses for this mission has a bet of his own to get a girl to fall in love with him in ten days. Several shenanigans ensue as the two attempt to complete their conflicting missions. This rom-com is an all-time personal favorite of mine. It also has lots of pastel and floral tones that will make anyone ready for spring!

Number 2: The Wedding Planner
The Wedding Planner stars Jennifer Lopez as Mary, a wedding planner who meets a doctor whom she starts to really like only to find out that he and his fiance are her newest clients. Mary then tries to conceal her true feelings for him and keep the wedding going as smoothly as possible. With jaw-dropping comedic scenes, this movie also has beautiful spring wedding scenes. It also has a star filled cast with Jennifer Lopez, Matthew McConaughey and Bridget Wilson.

Number 1: You’ve Got Mail
You’ve Got Mail is the number one rom-com to watch this spring. The movie goes through every season in a picturesque way starting in the fall and ending with spring. It tells the story of Kathleen and Joe Fox who meet online and email back and forth anonymously. In person, they meet again when Joe’s big company attempts to run Kathleen’s small bookstore, “The Shop Around the Corner”, out of business. This movie is an absolute classic, written and directed by Nora Ephron and just like “it would be a shame to miss New York in the spring”, it would also be a shame to miss this movie.
