South Bend Civic Theater recently announced its 2025 season, and the lineup features several opportunities for teenage performers.
South Bend Civic’s 2025 season consists of five musicals and five plays, and several of these productions feature great roles for high schoolers. Whether you are a seasoned theater kid looking to be involved in another show or a newcomer who’s thinking about stepping into the spotlight, it’s worth considering auditioning for one of these shows at SBCT next year.
From Feb. 28 to March 9, South Bend Civic will do “Once on This Island.” This vibrant coming-of-age musical from the creators of “Anastasia” and “Ragtime” features some leading roles perfect for talented, ambitious high schoolers. Two of the show’s central characters, the peasant girl Ti Moune and her love interest Daniel, are in their late teens. Alternatively, if you’re someone who isn’t quite ready to go out for a leading role, there are a few supporting characters who are high-school aged as well as opportunities for teens in the show’s ensemble.
The following month, SBCT will put on “Flat Stanley Jr.” at the Battell Center in Mishawaka. The whole cast will be first to 12th graders, which makes it a great opportunity for high school and elementary school students alike!
Next, “Waitress the Musical” will open on July 11. Although most of the main characters are adults, if you are interested in auditioning for this iconic, heart wrenching musical, there are lots of opportunities for high school students in the show’s ensemble.
In the fall, South Bend Civic will put on two shows with a great selection of teenage characters. The first, from Oct. 3-12, is “High School Musical.” Since 90% of the main characters in this show are high schoolers (hence the name “High School Musical”) it’s a great opportunity for teens to get onstage! The other production SBCT will do next fall is “The Crucible,” which will open on Nov. 7. This haunting play by Arthur Miller is about the infamous Salem Witch Trials and features several incredible roles for teenage girls.
Finally, from Dec. 12-21, SBCT will wrap up their 2025 season with “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” a hilarious comedy based on the book by Barbara Robinson. This play is centered around the antics of the six Herdman siblings, and features lots of fun roles for children and teens!
Whether you have a lot of theatrical experience or you are new to theater and interested in giving it a try, South Bend Civic Theater’s 2025 season features several shows with great opportunities for teen actors!
