As my time at John Adams High School comes to an end, so does writing for “The Tower.”
Writing for the tower has been nothing less than an enlightening experience. While sitting in sophomore English class, the teacher at the time, Mr. Nowicki, pitched the idea of joining the school newspaper to the class. At first, I was skeptical because I had been uninterested in writing most of my life, mainly because I thought it was boring. Fast-forward to today, two years later, and I’m delighted that I was given the opportunity to be part of “The Tower.” I cherish and thank my peers surrounding me in the class for pushing me to be a better writer and keeping the environment upbeat and lively. I would like to thank Julia for being my first editor; without her edits and suggestions, I would not have been as interested as I am now in “The Tower.” And I would especially like to thank Emily, my second editor. Without her rigorous yet encouraging edits, I wouldn’t have pushed myself to be a better writer, let alone be interested in journalism. I would also like to thank our teacher and the current head of “The Tower,” Ms. Taylor, for being one of the brightest and friendly teachers I have ever had the pleasure of working with throughout my twelve years of schooling.
With graduation right around the corner, I feel bittersweet about my goodbye to “The Tower.” I’m thankful for the memories and the opportunities given to me while being a reporter for such an organization, and I’m grateful for my peers. But I’m excited to continue my education and future.
Starting in August, I will be attending Purdue University West Lafayette, majoring in Cybersecurity and possibly taking up the idea of some ceramics classes. While I don’t see myself continuing my future with journalism, I am incredibly grateful for everything that has been taught to me, and I will continue to use the information given to me in future endeavors. While it may not seem like much to write an article once every couple of weeks, the many things you learn in the class are precious.
To any sophomores or juniors at John Adams High School who aspire to be journalists, I would highly recommend joining The Tower. Over the course of the two years I’ve been in the class, I don’t regret a thing.
