“Dune: Part Two,” the sequel to “Dune,” was officially released on March 1, 2024, and is currently blowing the minds of movie fans across the filmmaking world. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Dune: Part Two has an exceptional rating of 93% and an audience score of 95%. However, this article contains spoilers, so if you have not seen “Dune: Part Two,” watch that first.
Dune: Part Two was a stunning film. The atmosphere was highly immersive, and people literally jumped up and down out of excitement in the movie theater. The exceptional filmmaking in Jordan and Norway kept me on the edge of my seat by juggling my interest in the surroundings and the events in the film.
The cinematography in this film was out of this world. The persistent music in the movie provides a background into the characters’ emotions and intentions by using program music. The multiple switches between planets Giedi Prime and Arrakis kept me completely enthralled in the film. While the atmosphere switch between the planets was slightly confusing initially, it was necessary to carry out the parallel between Paul Atreides and Feyd-Rautha. The fight scenes were action-packed and really kept me fascinated by the movie. My favorite fight in the film was between Na-Baron Feyd-Rautha and the three known surviving Atreides members. The foreshadowing of Feyd-Rautha that is present creates an unsettling and terrifying atmosphere. Additionally, the black and white color scheme of Giedi Prime gives off a disturbing aura, one that’s devoid of anything positive, much like the Harkonnens, which inhabit the planet.
The acting in Dune: Part Two was also spectacular. Timothee Chalamet played his Paul Atreides or “The One” role exceptionally well and indeed became the character he was supposed to be: a powerful and confident leader. His excessive portrayal of emotions and power forms the character, which isn’t necessarily the good guy. Zendaya also played her character, Chani, very well. The support of Paul but ultimately the divide between them creates another storyline that should be followed to understand the events in the movie. If it weren’t for Chani, the movie would have less depth and a less intriguing storyline. Nicole Flender’s role as Paul’s mother in the film was vital and she especially played her character well. She provided that unsettling and eerie atmosphere. Her becoming the Reverend Mother on Arrakis played a significant part in the fate of Paul and the Fremen as a whole.
Overall, I would give Dune: Part Two a 10/10. I absolutely loved it. The cinematography was outstanding, the acting was perfect, and the plot was perfect. I recommend everyone watch the first one; otherwise, they will have no idea what is happening.
