The girls basketball season is reaching its midpoint. The girls have played very well so far this season. Varsity is 7-6 with their recent victory over Laporte High Scbool. They won 63-43. This season along with the new coaches the team has new captains. For varsity the captain is Meredith Anella, and for JV the captains are Alaynah Young and Samaria Morris. This is Young and Morris’ first year as captains and the first year for Anella. Anella is a senior on varsity, Young and Morris are juniors on JV. Anella is a forward, Young and Morris are both guards. Anella spoke about how she feels as team captain saying “It makes me proud that I stand out to him [Coach Moe Scott ] as a player.” She then went on to say, “I’m proud I represent my team.” Anella is very talkative throughout the game and on the sidelines. Anella does not plan to play basketball in college. When Anella was asked about her last season of high school basketball she explained her mixed feelings by saying, “I’m kind of looking forward to it being over. It’s a hard sport to play and it has not been as successful as my other sports.” She also said, “However the team I’m on this year is the best team I’ve been friends wise and I’m gonna be so sad to leave.” Morris and
Young have been very talkative on the sidelines as well cheering their team on to the win against Laporte on Dec. 16. The girls freshman team has a game Dec. 21 at Penn High School, while the varsity and JV team have a game at Northwood on Dec. 22. The team looks to get better in this game and win. The coaches have stressed the importance of always getting better even through the rough days.
