For a perfect evening, we need a perfect movie. Some people may prefer to read or to watch TV shows but for everyone who loves to watch movies, the year 2023 was sure to please. It was a year with many new and good movies for everyone. The year 2023 gave us many new movies from different genres and these are some recommendations for the top movies of 2023.
The highlight this year was obviously July 21, 2023, because of the release of two great movies. On this day viewers were able to go to the theater and watch Oppenheimer and Barbie on the same day. Oppenheimer is in my opinion in my top three movies this year and is a great option for anyone who is interested in history. The movie is about a physician who finds a solution to build an atomic bomb, a weapon in WWII which is stronger than any other weapon created. The way the movie shows the emotion and thoughts of Oppenheimer, who is also known as father of the atomic bomb, is a work of art. The sound effects, graphics and acting is this movie, make it one of the best movies this year.
Barbie was a highly anticipated movie that many were excited to watch, and it definitely met all expectations. The movie is about Barbie who tried to save a child, which is sad. To reach her, Barbie must enter the real world and meet there a whole different world, a world with patriarchy. Barbie’s struggle to forge her own identity and her realization that a perfect life may not be what she wants. Ken discovers the patriarchy and decides to bring it back to Barbieland, establishing his own “Kendom.” Ken cares more about the sartorial manifestations of the patriarchy than the patriarchy itself. The movie shows social problems in our world and points out how important equality is.
One of the most famous new movies this year is The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which is now the 5th part of “The Hunger Games” series. Every year, children from the 12 districts are selected via lottery to participate in a compulsory televised battle royal, with only one winner or better to say one survivor. The new part brings viewers back in time before the first movie and explains how everything starts. In my opinion this movie is perfect and everyone who watched the old hunger games movies should watch the new part.
For everyone who loves horror movies, 2023 was a perfect year. The movie Smile, is about a woman who gets cursed by a demon to smile but then her real demon is revealed to her and is completely unexpected. Smile is about facing your demons to defeat your problems. Another good horror movie this year was “The Nun 2”. “The Nun 2” is based on the first part “The Nun” and is about a nun who got owned by a demon who opened a door from hell to the real world and tried to destroy the church with power of the darkness. The first part ended with the defeat of the demon but how it survived and came back is shown in the second part, “The Nun 2”. Lastly, my absolute favorite horror movie this year was “Insidious:The Red Door”. Whoever watched Insidious knew how good and scary they could be and finally they dropped a new part this year. This movie is based on the first and second part of “Insidious” and is about a father and his son who almost lost to a demon in the first part. They thought they defeated the demon and could delete all the memory of the child to protect him from trauma. In the new part the son goes to a collage and slowly his memories come back and unintentionally he opens a door to the real world to the demon and everything starts over again. All together the horror movies this year were amazing and I recommend all of them.
In my opinion 2023 was a great movie year with so many different genres. These were some of my favorite movies this year and all of them are absolutely recommendations.
