After graduating from Saint Joe Grade School, Michael Camilleri began his career at John Adams with one main goal in mind: to make the most out of all the opportunities available to him. In his freshman year alone, he began to fulfill this goal with the title of outstanding freshman for both the cross country and track teams, forming a team in the school’s prestigious mock trial program and joining the Adams Quiz Bowl team.
During sophomore year, Michael expanded his resume with the Spanish Club and Spanish Honor Society. It wasn’t until this point that students were all able to attend in-person school at Adams together because of the pandemic, and being back in school helped Michael to strengthen relationships with his classmates and teachers.
In his third year, Michael added the rigorous IB Diploma candidate schedule to his plate. The quiz bowl team qualified for nationals for the second year in a row, and Michael had the opportunity to go with the Varsity team to Atlanta. In addition, he won the cross country city tournament alongside his team. He also pursued leadership roles, and has been elected as the President of the National Honor Society and Vice President of the Class of 2024.
For his final year, Michael decided to take a leap of faith and leave the cross country program to join soccer. Through tenacity and determination, he earned the role of Captain for the junior varsity team and was called up on numerous occasions to play with the Varsity team. Now that the soccer season has ended, he is taking on the challenge of swimming as a winter sport.
Outside of school, Michael enjoys attending 5 p.m. mass on Sundays, eating pasta, and listening to Fleetwood Mac, Jim Croce and Jack Johnson. After graduation, he plans to attend The University of Notre Dame and study international economics.
Michael’s message to underclassmen is to approach high school with an open mind and to take advantage of all opportunities available to them, much like he has. The Tower wishes Michael a strong and successful senior year, and all the best in his future endeavors.
