Halloween is only a few weeks away, and whether or not you are going trick-or-treating, watching movies, or hanging out with friends, part of the Halloween experience is dressing up in costume. Finding the right costume can be very stressful. Many people think that they have to spend tons of money on buying a costume or spend a lot of time on making a costume, but there are actually many cool costumes that you can put together requiring only a quick look through your closet (or a stop at GoodWill).
Barbenheimer: If you were one of the many people obsessed with seeing either Oppenheimer or Barbie (or maybe even both), then you probably already have a costume for this sitting in your closet. If not, it is still not very difficult to put together either of these costumes. For those looking to go as Barbie, all that you need to do is find as many pink clothes as you can. If you would like to go all out on your costume, stop by GoodWill, or your favorite thrift store, and buy the sparkliest pink dress that you can find. To make things interesting, you can pick clothing for whatever type of Barbie you want to be. You can choose to go as movie star Barbie, doctor Barbie, or even stereotypical Barbie. There are thousands of different ways to put together this costume, so have fun with it! An Oppeneimer costume is slightly harder to put together, but is overall very doable. For this costume, you will want to wear a button up shirt with a tie. A fedora will also add to your look if you can find one. You can also mix it up and go with half Barbie and half Oppenheimer (half pink, half black).
Taylor Swift Eras: Many swifties put together elaborate outfits to wear to the Eras Tour or the Eras Tour Film. If you are one of these people, your outfit does not need to just be a one night only thing. You can rewear your Eras outfit on Halloween and dress up as yourself (but Taylor’s Version). Additionally, if you have any extra supplies from making friendship bracelets from the tour or just for fun, you can make more to pass out to trick-or-treaters, or give to your friends. You can also turn your Eras outfit into an entirely new Halloween costume, if you don’t want to dress in Taylor-coded attire. If your Eras tour outfit was a sparkly dress, you could consider adding some wings on to go with a fairy look. If you dressed up in red, black, and white for Taylor’s Red Album, then you could use some of those pieces for a Queen of Hearts costume. If you wore a black fedora with your Eras tour outfit, then you could repurpose that into an Oppenheimer outfit or a spy costume.
Decades Look: For those that have ever dressed up for a decade’s day during Homecoming Spirit Week, it is safe to assume that you already know how to put together an outfit based on important parts of a different decade’s style . If you are not really sure what a specific decade entails, or if you need a little inspiration, you can google your decade’s fashion and build your outfit based off of that. For those that do not already have the clothes for a decades costume, all that is necessary is a stop or two at a thrift store and possibly a quick look for accessories on Amazon. You could also consider asking parents or grandparents if they still own any of their clothes from a previous decade. If you want to take it to the next level, you could recreate the look of an iconic person from whatever decade you are dressing up for such as Elvis Presley: an iconic singer of the 60s, Marty Mcfly: from the 80s movie Back to the Future, or Rachel Greene: from the 90s TV show, Friends.
Book or Movie Character: If you are trying to put together a costume like this using only clothes from your closet, then this look requires a little bit more creativity; nevertheless, it is very feasible. Disney character’s outfits are a good option to recreate because they are easily recognizable. A light blue or denim dress with straps over a white shirt is good for Belle from Beauty and the Beast; just make sure that you include a book as a prop. Winnie the Pooh is also an iconic Disney look, requiring only a red shirt and yellow pants. You can also try your hand at recreating the look of a character from your favorite book. People may or may not know who you are going as if you try out this one, but as long as you like your costume, it is totally worth it. If your book has a movie adaptation, it might make your costume a little bit more recognizable. Classic book characters that you might want to consider are Nancy Drew or Sherlock Holmes: put on a trench coat and grab a magnifying glass, Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games: wear a brown leather jacket, braid your hair in one braid down the back, and order a mockingjay pin off of Amazon, or Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz: wear a blue dress over a white shirt.
There is a wide variety of different Halloween costumes that you can put together using clothes that you already own. Halloween is a great opportunity to be creative with your clothing, and a chance to get out of your everyday comfort zone. These ideas are sure to be easy and fun for you to wear this Halloween.
