Mind Over Matter
Mind Over Matter (formerly the Mental Health Committee) is a mental health advocacy group based in John Adams High School. Founded in 2016, Mind Over Matter was created to spread awareness about mental illnesses in greater depth than the standard health class curriculum. Mind Over Matter is also a safe place for students to go when they feel like they have no one to talk to. The Mind Over Matter group has created presentations on topics such as anxiety and depression and presented them to health classes. “It is one thing having an adult speak to you about these things, but having one of your peers share the importance of mental health and even some of their own struggles really hits home for some students. We have had many stay after class to thank us and even ask us how to join,” says Skylar Dungy, one of the group’s founders. The group’s 20 members meet every Thursday at C lunch in room 1635, so be sure to go check it out!
