How to say bye to The Tower? Well, saying my goodbyes to The Tower will never be easy, but I want to kick off my parting with gratitude for all the opportunities this class has given me. I am thankful for the way The Tower has allowed me to grow, explore, and gain confidence. This class has been a perfect way to explore my interests and opinions whether I’m writing a cute piece on pop culture or a serious article on politics. I am thankful for the growth that The Tower has lent me in gaining confidence to publish my articles and interview students, teachers, and faculty. I am also grateful for the growth that I have gained in writing professionally.
In order to say bye to The Tower, I want to reflect on where I started and how my journey with The Tower has helped me to grow. My first semester of Newspaper I walked in as an unsure junior who had no clue what to even write about, but as I leave, I know that I have grown to explore many different topics and find a story that is both interesting and relevant. I first joined this class because I had an interest in writing and wanted to see where it would take me. The Tower has been a fantastic way for me to try out a different style of writing. I now walk out of this class knowing that my creativity as well as my vocabulary has grown thanks to this class.
Now that I have reflected on the past, it’s time to say “hello” to the next chapter and reflect upon how The Tower has prepared me for this future. Next year, I will be attending Taylor University as an Undecided Science major. As a girl who is interested in both Science and English, The Tower has allowed me to stay passionate and involved in writing even as I take rigorous academic courses at Adams. Writing is something that I will take with me for the rest of my life. I believe that writing is a potent tool that we can use to entertain, inform, and change things for the better. No matter what other interests one might have, engaging in powerful writing will be necessary for the rest of one’s life.
Lastly, I could never complete my goodbye to The Tower without giving some hopes and pieces of advice for The Tower’s future. My advice to the next generation of Tower staff is to keep The Tower vibrant and relevant. A school newspaper is an important platform where students can share and learn about school and local news that would otherwise not get much coverage. It is also a place where the students who run it can express opinions and engage in creativity. My hope is that the next years of students at Adams will cherish and appreciate their school newspaper for all of the things that it grants its students access to whether they be staff or readers.
Goodbye Tower. We have had a good run. I am thankful for all that I learned. May the future treat you well as we separate paths. I know that I will take parts of you with me as I step into the next chapter.
