With everything getting more expensive like new clothes and food and such, DIYs for this summer are in. DIY, or Do It Yourself, was popularized in the 50’s and 60’s as post world war II was an era of self efficiency. Since then, people have been working and creating many different cool and creative things and in this article I would like to share some of my favorites, as well as tutorials on how to do them.
Headbands
Right now headbands are a very popular item to DIY, and there are many different and creative ways to make them!
The first way is just by good old fabric. You can either sew a rectangle together that fits around your head, or you can even get a blank headband and sew cute fabric over it. Both are simple and cute and accessible! If you have an old shirt or towel maybe that you don’t want anymore? You can turn it into a cute headband, especially if it’s a towel because summer is supposed to be super warm.
Another way that I saw was taking a bunch of miscellaneous buttons and gluing them onto a bare headband. Again another cute and simple way of making headbands to wear.
Felt
Felt is a pretty cheap material that works well with embroidery and glue, and there are many versatile things you can make out of it.
Felt coin purses are one of the many crafts that can be made out of felt. It’s very simple too, you just cut out a rectangle where half is the desired size of the purse, and then you sew along the edges and add a little drawstring and bam! Coin purse. You can also cut out and sew many different things on your coin purse, ranging from animals to flowers to just cute patterns.
On the topic of things as such, you can also make anything into a felt key chain, perfect to go on car keys or a purse. Some of the common ones I’ve seen are foxes and flowers.
Have fun this summer and remember there are always tutorials on how to do things online.
