As the seasons begin to change and the bright spring flowers begin to bloom, it becomes time to transition from the stereotypical gloomy winter playlists into fresh and fun new music. As always, many new names have been emerging across all genres of the music industry just in time for this shift, and this provides great opportunities to expand upon one’s music taste.
Alex Warren’s pop song “Ordinary” has grown in popularity, despite the song’s 2024 release. It has gathered over 150 million streams on Spotify alone, as well as inspiring numerous trends across the artist’s former domain, TikTok. The song can often be found paired with wedding and romance videos, heavy with green foliage and colorful flowers, setting a perfect mood for spring.
Despite having officially released her first rap single in 2018, Doechii is just now receiving well-deserved recognition for her work, both released and unreleased. For Doechii, 2024 brought not only a collaboration with Tyler, The Creator, but even the release of her third studio album, titled “Alligator Bites Never Heal.” This album made waves across all platforms, and lead fans to search even further in to Doechii’s discography. An unreleased single of hers, titled “Anxiety” quickly made its circulations across the internet, becoming a widespread trend in reference to the popular 90’s sitcom, “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.” This prompted the artist to officially record and release the song which now has over 130 million streams. It can only be expected that Doechii will continue to grow in popularity as more and more of her talent is discovered by a new wave of listeners brought by modern social media.
Similar to Doechii, The Marías have existed within the music industry for some time now, but are just now getting the widespread appreciation warranted by their unique indie style. In December 2024, The Marías were found opening for popstar Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour. Meanwhile, a handful of their songs, such as “No One Noticed” and “Heavy” were uncovered by the internet, and quickly gained popularity. The band’s music could be quickly recognized through the lead singer, María Zardoya’s hauntingly beautiful voice paired over a mix of indie, jazz and soft rock instrumentals. The whimsical and abstract nature of The Marías makes them the perfect addition to any spring playlist.
Most notably throughout these artists is a common theme: discovery by the internet. Due to trends both mainstream and not, the internet never fails to provide new musical discoveries that fit the overall vibe of life. So many new spring artists, genres, and sounds can be discovered just by simply opening an app. A quick search within such apps however, may just lead aspiring listeners to an undiscovered, super niche artist with an awesome discography. And who would not want the privilege of bragging to their friends about that?
