On Feb. 14, 2025 Marvel released their latest movie in the Captain America saga: “Captain America: Brave New World. As someone who saw it in theaters on opening night, I’m excited to share my review of the movie with you all. But first and foremost, here is your spoiler warning! **If you haven’t seen the movie yet and don’t want spoilers, turn away! This article will have key details from the movie that will spoil the plot if you haven’t seen it yet!**
If you’ve kept up with the Captain America saga, you know that the prequel to this movie was “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” series. Watching this series beforehand is crucial in order to understand the storyline in “Captain America: Brave New World.” Having seen “Captain America: The First Avenger” or “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is less crucial in terms of understanding the plot.
Surprisingly, I don’t have many qualms with this new release. I think releasing it on Valentine’s Day was an interesting choice considering the movie is not remotely related to romance of any kind. I did like that Marvel brought the character of Isaiah Bradley back into the picture. I don’t think he was ever mentioned enough throughout the Captain America movies and show. So, I’m glad he is now in the picture.
Also, we know that the original Captain America, Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans) has since passed away in the Marvel Universe. Therefore, it’s no surprise that he did not make an appearance in this movie. The new Captain America, Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie), was the focus of this movie as well as who is suspected to be the new Falcon, Joaquin Torres (played by Danny Ramirez).
From the trailer, many people have discovered that the “Red Hulk” is a prominent character as well. But what the trailer doesn’t give away is that the President of the United States, Thaddeus Ross (played by Harrsion Ford), is the “Red Hulk.” President Ross is being manipulated by Samuel Sterns (played by Tim Blake Nelson), who gives him pills to increase the amount of gamma in his blood. Therefore, turning him into a monster in front of the whole country. This part shocked me to say the least. I vaguely suspected that President Ross was the “Red Hulk.” But, I never would have thought he was being manipulated and practically experimented on. Also, the whole “Red Hulk” battle scene with the new and improved Captain America was great!
The overall plot of this movie is extremely exciting and adds another layer of depth to the Captain America saga as well as the Marvel Universe. I for one, am extremely excited to see how Sam Wilson will continue to step into his role as Captain America. “Captain America: Brave New World” is a step in that direction, so I am grateful to Marvel Studios for that. I give this new movie a 5 star rating! Enjoy!
