Just two months into 2025, so much new music has been released. Influences of a “Brat” summer lingers throughout pop music, and the names of many early 2000’s pop stars can be seen making a resurgence. Lady Gaga, for example, is once again climbing the charts with her lead single “Abracadabra”–released Feb. 3– leaving many fans anticipating the release of her upcoming album “MAYHEM” which releases March 7.
The Weeknd’s new album, “Hurry Up Tomorrow” took the music industry by storm with its January release. The album consists of 22 songs featuring many well known artists such as Travis Scott, Florence+The Machine, Playboy Carti, Lana Del Rey and many more. Within a week of its release, its popularity earned it the top spot on Billboard’s top 200.
On Jan. 24, Tate McRae released the third single from her upcoming album, “So Close To What.” The album itself was released just last week, on Feb. 21, with features from Flo Milli and The Kid LAROI.
Lucy Dacus, an independent artist as well as a member of alternative supergroup Boygenius, has also recently released a lead single for upcoming album, “Forever Is A Feeling” which is set to release March 2028. The single, “Best Guess,” receives both praise and criticism within the musical community due to the controversial nature of the music video casting. This will be Dacus’s fourth solo studio album.
Another emerging solo artist, LISA, released “Born Again” on Feb. 7 as a teaser for her upcoming album “Alter Ego”. The song features not only Doja Cat, but RAYE as well. “Alter Ego” releases Feb. 28, and is confirmed to include a feature from ROSALÍA. Often known for her success within the Korean pop girl group BLACKPINK, LISA has grown in success since her solo debut in 2021. She currently holds nine Guinness World Records, including one for being the first solo K-pop artist to reach 1 Billion streams on Spotify alone.
These releases set into motion a great year for music in 2025. New music seems to be in the books for many other major artists such as Lana Del Rey, Drake, A$AP Rocky and Bon Iver. Smaller artists such as Alessia Cara, Addison Rae, David Kushner, Mon Rovîa, Rainbow Kitten Surprise and many others have released or plan to release new music this year.
