Top 3 Christmas Movies

Are you lost on what movies to watch with your friends and family this holiday season? According to a poll taken at John Adams High School, these three Christmas movies are at the top of everyone’s list!

First up we have a classic. The hilarious Warner brothers film, Elf, starring Will Farrell. This movie follows the story of an elf named Buddy. Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a baby and raised to adulthood among Santa’s elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf gear, in search of his biological father. As it happens, his father turns out to be Walter Hobbs (played by James Caan), a cynical businessman. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the innocent Buddy with increasingly chaotic results. If you love funny movies, this one is the one for you!

Next is The Polar Express. This 2004 motion capture film was created by Warner Brothers as well and directed by Robert Zemeckis. This movie follows the story of a young boy who has grown skeptical of Santa Claus then is shocked to see a train stop outside his window on Christmas Eve, destined for the North Pole. When he accepts an invitation from the conductor to climb on board, he embarks on a rollercoaster of a journey to Santa’s headquarters, where he makes fast friends and learns an invaluable lesson about the true spirit of Christmas. This movie is a heartwarming story about finding the true meaning of Christmas spirit, if that sounds interesting then this one’s for you!

Third in line is The Nightmare Before Christmas. This Tim Burton film follows the misadventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s beloved pumpkin king. Jack has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the “real world.” When Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown, all bright colors and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life, he plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over his role. But Jack soon discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go seriously awry. This movie has a years old debate on whether it is a Halloween or Christmas movie, so if you enjoy both of these holidays, this pick is perfect for you!

Annabelle Lyons, a junior at John Adams, excited to start her journey in finding her voice within the many topics she will be writing about this school year. Although this is Annabelle's first year with The Tower, she loves spending her time writing various different things, from songs, to short stories, and essays about her favorite artist, Taylor Swift, and the complex storylines in her music. Annabelle was inspired to start writing at a young age. She was in school for Preschool and Kindergarten but then her mom noticed how she was struggling within the traditional school setting, and elected to pull her and her sisters out of school and begin an uncommon form of schooling called “Worldschooling.” Worldschooling is a niche idea of schooling originally founded in 2010-2015. It is believed in this community that children learn faster and more complex ideas of thinking at a young age, when exposed to other cultures. Worldschooling families spend all their time traveling around the world, most without a homebase. She loved exploring and reflecting on their history through writing. When Annabelle is not writing or at school she can usually be found at home with her family and dogs or at the barn riding horses. From a young age, she expressed a lot of love for animals, especially horses. One of her best friends, Myah Arter, would describe Annabelle as a “horse girl,” but she will always deny such accusations, then proceed to spend the next 30 minutes explaining how much she loves riding and how obese her lesson horse, Jodie, is. Even though Annabelle loves animals, she wants to pursue cosmetology during and after high school. She has always loved doing makeup and hair ever since she was little, and it has been her number one way to express herself, and to help others express themselves, today. But above all of that, Annabelle is someone who you can always go to when you are in need of a friend, she is someone who will listen to and help you solve whatever problems you may be facing. You can almost always guarantee a joke will be made to help whoever she is talking to feel better. Annabelle is very excited to begin her writing journey at The Tower!
