Krak Boba, a new tea shop that recently opened on North Eddy Street, offers a wide variety of yummy drink options that boba tea enthusiasts are sure to adore. However, the shop also offers more conventional, boba-free alternatives for customers who prefer more conventional beverages. Although the cafe is a bit overpriced and somewhat cramped inside, it’s still worth stopping by to see if you like the sound of anything on their menu.
I visited Krak Boba last Tuesday with my boyfriend. We arrived around 5:30, and although the store was decently busy, staff kept things moving very efficiently. We only had to wait for a few minutes before we were able to place our order. While we were waiting, we perused the vast menu displayed above the counter. There were countless drink options, ranging from smoothies to coffee to milk tea. Personally, I quite like the unusual texture and flavor of boba, and I am also a huge fan of strawberry milkshakes, so I opted for a smoothie called “Strawberry Snow” with regular boba pearls. Meanwhile, my boyfriend, who does not share my affinity for boba (he even compared the texture of boba pearls to that of fish eyes) was able to order a completely boba-free Creme Brûlée Coffee, thanks to the fact that Krak Boba makes it very easy for customers to add or remove boba from any menu item. Our cashier was very friendly and happy to customize his order. Together, our two drinks cost around $17– a bit pricey, but ultimately not all that different from what two drinks at Starbucks would cost.
We only had to wait a few minutes for our drinks. As we waited, I found myself feeling glad that the cafe was not too crowded, because although the store has a cute, pastel-themed interior, the small seating area is not designed to accommodate more than a handful of people. When our drinks were ready, we stabbed our straws through their plastic seals and took our first sips. I found my Strawberry Snow smoothie a bit too sweet, but still deliciously creamy and ice-cold, and the boba in the drink was the perfect chewy texture. My boyfriend, who had actually previously tried and enjoyed the Creme Brûlée Coffee, loved it once again. I ended up regretting not requesting a smaller size, because the size that they gave me was slightly enormous. Overall, however, I was satisfied with what I ordered.
I look forward to trying a new beverage next time I visit Krak Boba. I might order the Caramel Black Milk Tea, or maybe the “Moon Princess” smoothie, if I am brave enough to try “pink crystal boba”. I would recommend Krak Boba to fearless boba drinkers and people with pickier palettes alike, because Krak Boba’s menu is so versatile that it can comfortably accommodate them both. However, I would be sure to make prospective customers aware of the fact that the cafe is moderately expensive, advise them to opt for a small cup instead of a large, and warn them not to plan on hanging out in the cafe with a large group due to the limited amount of space.
