With the summer months coming to a close, the Michiana community has transitioned into hosting many festive fall activities.These each provide unique experiences to enjoy with family, friends, or simply by yourself. Here are a few of the available opportunities to get into the spooky spirit:
The Potawatomi Zoo Pumpkin Patch: Throughout the entire month of October, the Potawatomi Zoo is hosting a pumpkin patch event. Each person can pick out a small pumpkin, ride the zoo train, craft a yummy treat and take photos at the provided photo ops for only eight dollars! This is a great activity for families looking for a fun autumn atmosphere.
Zoo Boo: The Potawatomi Zoo also offers a trick-or-treating opportunity for those interested. Children can dress up in their costumes to enjoy trick-or-treating and seeing the animals. Entrance fees are $6 per person for members and $12 per person for non-members. Children under the age of two receive free admission. Tickets for the Haunted Train and Enchanted Carousel are priced separately. This event takes place on October 18-19 from 2-9 p.m, offering a scarier Haunted Train experience after from 5-9 p.m. and October 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Thistleberry Farm: Thistleberry farm is a great place to have fun with the entire family! Activities including pedal cars, a giant slide, a giant jumping pillow and duck races cater to younger audiences. However, teens and adults may also enjoy the experiences of pony rides, apple canons and many other activities that are available at additional costs. A gift shop, donut barn, concessions and pumpkin/mum area are also great opportunities to enjoy time at this establishment. Thistleberry is most renowned for its vast corn maze and sunflower fields. Unfortunately, the sunflower fields are not open at this point in time but the corn field provides just as much fun! Weekday tickets are $12.95 while weekend tickets are $15.95 per person. Anyone under the age of 2 receives free admission.
Trick or Treat at Eddy Street: Eddy Street Commons is offering free trick-or-treating to any child under 12-years-old who has an adult accompanying them. Opportunities will be available to ‘pick’ a pumpkin, play twister, create crafts and play games. This event takes place on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Monster Dash: Mishawaka Parks & Recreations is offering a fun run for anyone 3-years-old or older at the Ironworks Plaza. Multiple food trucks will be present at the end, along with a music/dance party and pumpkin decorating. Registration is $10 and this event begins at 6 p.m. on October 25.
Table or Treat: On October 26, the Mishawaka Riverwalk is hosting a free trick-or-treating opportunity from 5-7 p.m. Many local businesses will be passing out candy as well as the Mishawaka Parks Department. Everyone is welcome at this event.
Harry Potter at the Morris: On the 26 and 27 of October, The Morris will be playing “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.” During these showings, the movie score, originally by John Williams, will be played by the South Bend Symphony. This offers an immersive and unique showing of this well-known film. The experience begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27. Tickets are anywhere from $34 to over $100, and selling out fast!
Studebaker Trunk-or-Treat: On October 30 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. the Studebaker Museum will be hosting a free trunk-o- treat! Costumes are strongly encouraged but not required, and the event is open to any children who are accompanied by an adult. It is important to note that no costume weapons of any kind will be permitted into this event.
