On Sept. 12, 2024, the Adams boys soccer team won against Concord High School, the number one ranked high school in Indiana for soccer. The game lasted 90 minutes and the final score was ultimately three to one. The players did a phenomenal job keeping the ball in possession, and keeping a steady formation during the first and second halves of the game. They had a lot of chemistry and vocal interactions throughout the game.
Isaac Popoca, one of the varsity captains for the Adams boys soccer team, had a chance to share a few words with The Tower. Popoca, who played with the boys against Concord, stated that Diego Cruz, Gerado Martinez and Eddie Scheffller all scored against Concord. Issac mentioned that it felt good beating the Minutemen and that they knew what the John Adams Eagles were capable of. According to Popoca, the Eagles are not afraid of any team, and this unforeseen win further solidified this. The boys soccer team has been training off season since January, starting with weight lifting and as the weather got warmer, started ball training in spring and summer. They have sacrificed a lot of their time and have so much effort into their season. Popoca even agreed, stating that training off season was a lot of work and time consuming, but it definitely paid out in the long run, especially after winning against the Minutemen.
“We went out there and we knew exactly what to do, what to say, how to play, and how to properly execute the plan,” Issac explained. “It’s like the boys and I entered the flow state.”
Instead of celebrating this amazing win, the team is currently training diligently toward a bigger achievement.
“Winning state would be a dream come true,” said Popaca. “I want our team to not slack off because of the victory we recently had, but to use it as fuel to get even better and win more games than we have in a long time.”
There is no doubt that the boys soccer team will make it to the state competition, judging from how good their season is going so far. As the season goes on, Issac Popoca and the other captains are making sure that the players prepare themselves in all aspects to go against tougher teams and win state. Let’s hope that the boys bring the state title back to Adams, GO EAGLES!
