While John Adams is an amazing school, there seems to be an issue with the football team and its continuous losing streak. The Adams Eagles are currently sitting at five loses and zero wins. The team has amazing student-athletes, so why are they losing?
I interviewed the head varsity coach, Coach Karczewski, and he had a lot of optimistic things to say about his team. Coach K admitted to the shortcomings of his team, however, he stated, “I’m proud of the growth of the juniors, sophomores and even the freshmen who’ve stepped up due to the small senior class.” Though Coach is most proud of his seniors, the class of 2025, he says the underclassmen’s ability to step up and help the team out is above and beyond. He says, “The game comes down to the fundamentals of football as well as tackling and blocking. We need to be more efficient and improve all across the field, however, no team is perfect.” Additionally, Coach believes that the biggest way to improve is what they do in the off-season so that their bodies, brains and knowledge of football stay in shape. All around, the football team has had better offense, fewer penalties and has played more cohesively.
I asked Coach Karczewski what keeps the team motivated, to which he responded:, “Every week, I see them go out there and still try their best. It can be hard when things aren’t going your way to want to give up or throw in the towel, however the team is motivated by the bond they’ve created with their brothers to represent John Adams High School.”
The Adams football team continues to develop and broaden their understanding of the game. On Sept. 20, the Eagles went head to head with their rival, the St. Joseph Huskies. Though they weren’t able to secure the win, The Eagles did score twice against St. Joe’s strong defense. On Oct. 4, the Eagles are set to play Washington High School, who share an identical 0-5 record as the Eagles. The match-up could prove to be a season-changing game for the Eagles.
Improvement doesn’t just happen overnight and we will continue to be proud of the boys that represent our school on the field every Friday, win or lose.
