Lauren Gallegos, a driven, hard working senior is looking forward to her final year at John Adams High School. A busy student, Gallegos is involved in many different extracurricular activities and clubs. She is a co-captain of the Quizbowl team, as well as a co-president of Spanish Honors Society . To go along with that she is a member of Spanish Club, National Honors Society, Eagles Going Green and JAVA. Gallegos also played softball for three years before deciding to take a break this year to focus on getting ready for college. She believes that being a part of these extracurriculars has allowed her to learn different perspectives as well as given her the opportunity to meet many new people she wouldn’t normally get the chance to meet. Gallegos states “I think that overall the planning and working with others will better prepare me for my future.”
Gallegos is currently partial IB taking four IB classes and one AP. Her three favorite classes currently are Ms. Beatty’s IB World Religions, Mrs. Stanton’s IB Spanish, and Mr. Bart’s AP calculus and IB Math. Lauren states “Ms. Beatty brings so much enthusiasm to first hour everyday, it’s hard to not have a smile on your face.” She then says “Mrs. Stanton puts so much effort into her classes and all the other activities that she runs.” She continues to express that “ Mr.Bart pushes his students for sure but it has made me into a better student,”
Outside of school Gallegos enjoys painting, collecting vinyls, and going to as many concerts as possible. Not knowing where she is going to go college scares the daylights out of her because she hates the unknown. Given that, a few colleges she has applied to are the University of Arizona, Grand Canyon University, UNC Chapel Hill, St. Mary’s College and Purdue University. Gallegos intends to go to college as a nursing major but wants to explore other medical professions while in college. She’s also thinking about studying exercise and sports science and possibly minoring in Spanish. When asked about her reasons for minoring in Spanish she said, “I think that language barriers in medicine are detrimental to our society so if I can do anything to help, by being bilingual, that would be amazing.”
One of Gallegos favorite memories at John Adams High School is playing softball. She explains that she enjoyed “getting to know new girls and having a great time with them everyday.” Another memorable experience for Lauren was the IB Art and Spanish trip to Chicago where they visited the National Museum of Mexican Art as well as enjoyed a walk along a street filled with all different kinds of small businesses (restaurants, book stores, ice cream shops, and vinyl shops). Gallegos describes herself as “hard to talk to in school, but I honestly just love to have a genuine conversation with anyone and everyone” Outside of school she enjoys spending time to herself but hanging out with her friends is her go to. Her message to underclassmen would be “don’t waste your time, I know sometimes it feels like you have to get everything done now but you should make more time to be with friends and do things that make you happy.”
