Tuesday, Oct. 24, the John Adams Quiz Bowl Team hosted Penn in the first matchup of the quiz bowl regular season. The competition was close, and as they entered the final toss-up question, the Eagles were trailing 255 to 290. Sophomore Jesse Rabbitt answered the question “in power” (early enough in the question) to earn Adams 15 points, and the team collaborated to correctly answer the three bonus questions, winning 300-290. The following week on Wednesday, Nov. 1, the team traveled to Riley to compete against the Wildcats. The Eagles managed to score over 400 points in both the JV and varsity rounds, securing another victory. Quiz bowl will be back in action at home next Wednesday, Nov. 8, against Mishawaka.
Though the regular season has only just begun, the Eagles have already brought home silverware this fall from Jan Rademacher Invitational at White Cloud High School. Three Adams teams competed, one of which won their bracket, while the other two earned positive records.
Adams, which boasts the largest quiz bowl team in the state of Indiana, won the conference and the conference tournament last year, en route to a competitive state campaign. Furthermore, the Eagles have sent students to both individual and team national competitions for the past two seasons.
For those interested in supporting John Adams Quiz Bowl, the team will be hosting its annual trivia night on Dec. 1 in the B gym. Tickets are $10, and all proceeds will go to covering team travel, tournament and practice expenses. Concessions will be available.
