Julilla Baer

Senior Spotlight

Seth Kirkpatrick, Managing Editor

Julilla Baer is one of the several seniors involved heavily with the arts, especially drama and band. She currently serves as section leader for the school’s Marching Band. Her interest in band began ¨like many¨ in the fifth grade, after being persuaded by her parents. Her love for it came after her discovery of the trombone, which she describes as ¨a beautiful way to let out stress in my life.” She decided to become a section leader to help the band reach the goal of going to the state competitions, something that was last accomplished the year before her freshman year. Baer currently leads the mellophone section in marching band and describes them as ¨the best section in the band¨ since¨they are all super talented, which makes my job easier.” She states the hardest part of being a section leader is acting like a leader in the hardest times, but ¨as a leader I try my best to keep a positive attitude for the rest of the band.” She has two points of advice for any upcoming/already established freshman: ¨Go outside your comfort zone […] don’t be afraid to try new things¨  and also ¨do what makes you happy. Spend less time worrying about college applications and more time on things you genuinely want to do¨. Her favorite memory of band is ¨their obsession with fruit snacks. I bring a huge box of fruit snacks to almost every competition and pass them out on the bus. It sounds strange, but I think [they] taste better on the band bus.¨
