On Oct. 2, the John Adams volleyball team celebrated senior night and played Bremen High School. This year is Coach Bobby Harwood’s first season coaching for Adams and when asked about how he felt the season went he said “The team played very well and he watched his seniors lead the team.” He explained that each one of them were leaders in their own ways. Harwood said “Meredith Anella was the heart of the team.” When I asked him how Harwood felt going into the game against Bremen he said he felt
very good since they were coming off a win against Mishawaka for the first time since 1979.
After speaking to Harwood, senior Lauren Quiroz expressed her feelings about her final season with John Adams. Quiroz said “she was proud of how far they have come and how well they have played together.” She also talked about how she was sad to play her last game. When asked about her future plans she says she is planning on attending IUSB. Quiroz has decided she doesn’t want to play volleyball after high school, saying it has been a part of her life for so long and she wants to branch off from playing.
After speaking with Quiroz the main captain, Meredith Anella talked about how she felt playing her last volleyball game for John Adams. Anella said she was “sad about the last game but also happy at how they improved together as a team.” When told that Coach Harwood considered her the heart of the team she said she was “honored and felt that was the biggest compliment you could get from a coach.” When asked about her college plans she said her top schools are the University of Wisconsin or Indiana University.
After senior night festivities Varsity was ready to play. At the beginning of the first set the energy was high throughout the whole gym. Adams has the
first point of the set. Megan Eleff had an amazing hit to put the Adams Eagles up 6-3. The crowd was energetic and cheered with the bench. The first timeout was taken by Bremen after Adams went up 18-8. Adams won the first set 25-12, giving Adams a 1-0 lead over Bremen
In the second set the energy was still high throughout the whole gym. The Eagles were playing with determination to win the last game. Adams took a quick 10-6 lead over Bremen. The Eagles were having fun and enjoying the last game of the year. Bremen called a timeout once The Eagles went up 20-10. The Eagles won 25-11, giving Adams a 2-0 lead over Bremen
In the third set Adams took a quick 8-4 lead over Bremen. Anella had an amazing kill to put Adams up 24-10. Adams beat Bremen 25-11. Adams has a clean 3-0 sweep over Bremen securing their last victory of the season, making them 22-9 for the season. Adams played with hard work and dedication. They had determination to win the last game of the season for the seniors it will be a game they never forget,
