On Tuesday Sept. 19, the John Adams volleyball team played the Elkhart Lions at 6 p.m. The junior varsity team took a quick 7-4 lead on Elkhart. The environment was energetic and loud and the Lady Eagles played with hustle and determination. Despite this, they lost the first set 25-16, along with the second set, 25-14.
After the game, I spoke to one of the JV captains, Samara Rouser, about how the game went. She said that they “could have done better by moving their feet and giving better passes.” Rouser also said that she “felt responsible for the energy of her team,” because she is a captain and she felt the energy could have been better. Rouser played a good game with some key hits and even though the team lost, they played with hustle.
The varsity game followed the JV. Leading up to the game, the team had high energy. After the game started, the girls worked hard and showed determination to keep the lead. Adams got off to a hot start against Elkhart, but after a few bad plays, Coach Bobby emphasized the importance of communication on the court. Even though the girls were down 17-7 they worked hard and maintained high spirits . They fought back to be down by only one point forcing the Lions to call a timeout. Despite the girls hustling through the whole set, they dropped the first set 25-23.
The girls continued to bring the energy in the second set, but Elkhart took a quick 4-0 lead on the Eagles. The girls went on to lose the second set 25-16, giving Elkhart a 2-0 lead on the Eagles.
The Eagles kept the lead close in the beginning of the third set, working off of the energy and hustle of the team. Sophomore, Marcella Neimier and senior, Meredith Anella contributed well to the energy of the team and the teams play overall. Anella is the varsity captain and cheered her team on the whole game. Neimier had some key hits that helped them stay in the game. Even though the girls hustled and never gave up, they lost the third set, making the score 3-0 Elkhart and losing the game. The girls worked hard throughout the whole game and even though they didn’t win, they never gave up.
