March Madness Preview

This year in college basketball has been a weird year to say the least. Teams are in and out of the top ten and and top 25. This week is all of the conference championship tournaments, some of these teams could punch their ticket to March Madness with a tournament win. There are 10 teams in the Big 10 that are already projected to make it to march madness. The lowest seed is Rutgers who have the projected 9 seed.

Some teams to watch will be Dayton, San Diego St., Michigan, Duke, and Villanova. I said Villanova and Michigan because those two teams have been tournament teams in recent years. Don’t be surprised if Penn State or Louisville make a run either. Dayton having only lost two games this year comes out of nowhere and should take the one seed. San Diego St. also losing only two games this year got the second seed in their section of the bracket, behind Gonzaga who also only has two losses. All of the other teams I mentioned were 3 seeds and above.

March Madness in my opinion is one of the most unpredictable tournaments in all of college and professional sports. This tournament is one that anybody can win. The first round consists of 64 teams, with four sections of the bracket, and 16 teams per bracket. The 16 seed has only beaten the 1 seed once and that was in 1990 so it most likely won’t happen but anything can happen. A Cinderella story is not rare in March Madness. An unexpected 5 or 6 seed will come out of nowhere and make it to the final four or the championship game. My prediction for a Cinderella story this season is the 6 seed Penn State. Based on who they have to play and their performance this season so far.
